An excellent insight into the early days of Essex policing.
Small but very detailed history of the police service in Essex. Free parking & entry and we'll worth a visit.
Been twice now, brilliant for young kids who are police service mad. And big kids too. Very informative and interesting collection.
The Essex County Police Force Museum is small but there is quite a bit packed in. Loads of objects on display including truncheons, uniforms, and equipment from different points in the history of Essex policing. There is a good amount of information on each of the exhibits, a mock up crime scene, uniform to dress up in, a craft area for the kids and even a mock up of a police station cell (so there's somewhere to leave the kids!) The museum is located on the force's HQ site, it's a bit out of the way but not too bad. Admission is free (though donations are appreciated.)
It's very small but fun. Staff friendly and helpful. Free car park. Has a small souvenir shop.I really enjoyed visiting this museum with my little family. We probably spent less then an hour here but in this time we; tried on police uniform, solved a crime, took our own fingerprints, found jewellery, coloured in, played with toys and of course found out a little bit about police history.
